XPost: rec.collecting.sport.misc, rec.autos.marketplace, rec.autos.misc       XPost: ont.forsale       From: jrsinc@mnsi.net              "Official Automobile Road Guide Of Canada 1912"                     I have for sale the out-of-print, 1st edition book "Official Automobile       Road Guide Of Canada 1912" by the Ontario Motor League, published in 1971.       The edition contains 352 pages of text, photographs, road maps, as well as       mileages to and from cities, and towns in Canada in the year 1912.       Foreword Excerpt:       "In 1912 car travel was still, to most people, more of a sport than a means       of transportation-a summer sport, in fact, and one restricted to the rich,       the eccentric, and the adventuresome. The only properly paved highway in       Canada was a 10-mile concrete strip built in 1910 from Montreal to Ste.       Rose. Some stretches of highway in Ontario and Quebec had been       "macadamized" by compacting layers of crushed stone, but the "tourist", as       the car driver was called in those days, thought himself lucky if he could       open up for a few miles on a nice stretch of gravel, as a respite from the       clay and sand surfaces that were the order of the day and from the shaky       bridges and steep hills for which passengers often had to jump out. At the       time when this, the eighth edition of the Ontario Motor League's annual       road guide was in use, registered cars in Canada totalled: Ontario       (excluding Toronto) 12,435 - Toronto 5,315       Quebec (excluding Montreal 3,534 - Montreal 5,118 - Nova Scotia 1,435 - New       Brunswick 1,268 - Prince Edward Island 35 - Manitoba 5,010 - Saskatchewan       5,773 - Alberta 3,600 - British Columbia 3,081 - Total 46,604       Altogether, the 1912 Road Guide is a feast of instant Canadiana for the       modern-day motorist and his passengers, a sure source of extra interst and       fun on family trips and outings in the regions it covers, and a rare       experience of nostalgia for armchair drivers throughout the country."       The "Official Automobile Road Guide Of Canada 1912" is in very good       condition.       Price $35. CDN plus postage                     Please include your "postal mailing address" so I can calculate postage       costs to your destination. Thank you              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
