From: jfmezei.spamnot@vaxination.ca              Analogue channels require hardware filters for every home that       block/enable a range of frequencies (aka: channels).              This shuffling may enable Rogers to free up a block of channels which       will no lonegr require a filter since that block would no longer carry       any analogue channels                     Now that "The Wire Report" has reported Rogers intends to move to an all       IPTV television distribution. I don't have any info on this, but this       would be a very interesting move because they could do this by freeing a       relatively small number of analogue channels.              Another aspect is that Rogers only has 42mhz of bandwodth (7 NTSC       channels) which have repeaters to allow signals from home to the cable       head end (aka: upload). If there were some analogue channels there,       moving them out to channels which are outside of this limited 42mhz       capacity would free up bandwidth for upload (with docsis3 , they can       bond uploadchannels to offer much more upload capacity).              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
