From: jfmezei.spamnot@vaxination.ca              Shaw has already removed all analogue channels.              As long as the cable company provides a cheap/free digital converter I       dont think the CRTC can say anythint about it. And even if they don't, I       am not sure the CRTC can complain because people can always go OTA.              Face it: everyone has to go Digital. The sooner the better.              And the sooner the cable companies remove analogue channels, the sooner       they can stop complaining about internet bandwidth hogs because for       every channel they free, they can add another 38mbps of download       capacity to the neighbourhood.              (6mhz with compression yields about 38mbps of usable data bandwidth)              Right now, cable companies have to carry 3 copies fo the same channels       (HD digital, SD digital, and analogue.).              Bell's IPTV carries only what a house is currnetly watching, so it can       offer far greater selection of channels because it doesn't have to carry       3 copies of a channel to every home even though nobody is watching it.              Recent news have shown that Bell's IPTV offering is starting to steal       customers from Rogers. So Rogers will want to get rid of the old       analogue in order to spruce up its offering. to compete against Bell's.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
