It is phyiscally impossible for you to get 7mbps on a 7mbps ADSL1 or
   ADLS2 line.

   Here is the breakdown:

   1452	1452	data
1492	40	IP and TCP header
   1500	8	PPPoE header
   1518	18	Etherhet Packet Header

Carrying 1518 bytes in ATM involves 32 packets totalling 53 bytes each.
(48 bytes of payload, 5 bytes of header, last packet padded to 48 bytes)

So, to send 1452 bytes of data, you end up sending 32*53 = 1696

This means 244 bytes of overhead for 1452 of data or 16% overhead.

So you need to reduce your carrier speed by 16% to get the maximum data
   throughput.

Is your modem 12 years old too ?

While you have had this for 12 years, it does not mean that during this
time, Bell hasn't done work on the lines or broght DSLAMs closer to your
   home.
