I would withhold that round of applause, until you learn
more about how the telephone works.

During a power outage, it will likely be non-functional.

It may not have 911 locator service. I'm not sure what the
status is these days, of 911 which is not on POTS.

You'll likely have other long distance options,
and "anything but Bell" will help you there.

Keep track of "call completion", and see how it
compares to POTS. Does every call you attempt to
make, happen the first time ?

I expect you didn't get number portability, as Bell
has been denying this recently. I don't know what
the law states about number portability - I guess
the law is arbitrary or useless, judging by what
I've heard. Number portability, is the ability to
use the same phone number you had with Bell, so
you don't have to contact all your friends, the
bank etc., and give your new number. AFAIK, to
port a number, you get the new phone company to
"pull" it from the old phone company. Only when
that is completed, do you "give the finger" to
the old phone company, not before.
