   There wasn't any partition/format originally. I tried adding one, which   
   didn't help. Then I deleted it and tried your suggestion, above. Still no   
   dice.

   It's currently 09.22. And there is apparently no way of forcing an update.   
      
   I'm going to sign up at the Shaw site and post to the forum there.
