         Job Description   
      
         Position Purpose   
      
      
      
         ·         Ensure that all services which have satisfied the criteria   
   for production status are available to all authorized users, and that   
   acceptable performance levels are met or exceeded at all times.   
      
         ·         Manage IT infrastructure operations   
      
      
      
         Key Responsibilities   
      
      
      
         ·         Manage performance and capacity   
      
         Ø       Ensure that adequate capacity is available and that best and   
   optimal use is made of it to meet required performance needs.   
      
         ·         Ensure data confidentiality   
      
         Ø       Safeguard information against unauthorized use, disclosure or   
   modification, damage or loss.   
      
         ·         Educate and train users   
      
         Ø       Users are making effective use of technology and are aware of   
   the risks and responsibilities involved.   
      
         ·         Assist and advise customers   
      
         Ø       Any problems experienced by users are appropriately resolved.   
      
         ·         Manage problems and incidents   
      
         Ø       Problems and incidents are resolved and the cause investigated   
   to prevent any recurrence.   
      
         ·         Manage data   
      
         Ø       Data remains complete, accurate and valid during its input,   
   update and storage.   
      
         ·         Manage operations   
      
         Ø       Important service and support functions are performed   
   regularly and in an orderly fashion.   
      
         ·         Monitor processes   
      
         Ø       The achievement of the performance objectives set for   
   operations processes.   
      
         ·         Manage data centre facilities   
      
         Ø       A suitable physical surrounding which protects the IT   
   equipment against man-made and natural hazards   
      
         ·         Obtain independent assurance   
      
         Ø       To increase confidence and trust among the organization,   
   customers, and third-party providers.   
      
         Working Relationships/Key Linkages   
      
      
      
      
      
      
      
         Dimensions   
      
      
      
         ·         Data collection, analysis and reporting on resource   
   performance, application sizing, and workload demand.   
      
         ·         Logical access controls which ensure that access to systems,   
   data and programs are restricted to authorized users.   
      
         ·         A comprehensive training and development plan.   
      
         ·         A second level support facility   
      
         ·         A problem management system which records and progresses all   
   incidents.   
      
         ·         An effective combination of application and general controls   
   over operations.   
      
         ·         A schedule of support activities which is recorded and   
   cleared for the accomplishment of all activities.   
      
         ·         The definition of relevant performance indicators, the   
   systematic and timely reporting of performance, and prompt action upon   
   deviations.   
      
         ·         Independent assurance reviews carried out at regular   
   intervals.   
      
      
      
         Competencies (Skill Set/Qualifications/ Experience)   
      
      
      
         ·         A university degree in computer science or engineering   
      
         ·         10+ years experience in Information Technology with focus on   
   management of computer operations, networking and systems administration   
      
         ·         Knowledge of IT services and support operations in a Cisco,   
   Solaris, Oracle, EMC environment   
      
         ·         5+ years experience with managing, recruiting, coaching and   
   motivating senior staff members   
      
         ·         Demonstrated ability to lead, plan, manage, implement,   
   organize and problem solve   
      
         ·         Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a highly   
   dynamic environment   
      
         ·         Ability to actively promote a culture of cooperation between   
   different IT teams   
      
         ·         High customer service orientation   
      
         ·         Good judgement is essential, as are sound communication and   
   negotiation skills
