|    TURMEL: Election Auditor not required fo    |
|    28 Sep 19 02:17:19    |
From: johnturmel@gmail.com              JCT: You'll remember that I sued Elections Canada to ditch       the $250 cap on auditor's fee to cover the whole cost of my       accounting for a zero campaign! I took it to the Supreme       Court and lost.              Last June 6 2018, I made a presentation to the Parliamentary       Committee on Procedure. where I argued: "An auditor should       not be required before a threshold of expenses is reached.       For election candidates too. The Elections Act should not be       job-creation for accountants." My report:       https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/alt.fan.john-turmel/fwRLSR       x7iA`2Fj5LL8SAAAJ              JCT: I didn't think I should have to hire an auditor to       register the expenditure on a bus ticket. Under old rules,       we didn't have to report anything under $2,000 candidate       personal expenses.              I just found out that the legislation has been changed to       grant my request and make it even better than I could have       hoped:              https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/annualstatutes/2018_31/FullText.html              No longer required to appoint an auditor below certain       financial and vote thresholds, as per Bill C-76              Bill C-76       Elections Modernization Act       Appointment of auditor       477.1 (2) A candidate shall appoint an auditor without delay       if       (a) they accept contributions of $10,000 or more in total;       (b) they incur electoral campaign expenses of $10,000 or       more in total; or       (c) they receive 10% or more of the valid votes cast in the       electoral district in which they are a candidate.              JCT: So no need for an auditor at all, even for zero       returns, if contributions and expenses are less than $10K.       Hope my endeavors helped.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
