From: johnturmel@gmail.com              TURMEL: Ontario Gives Up on Covid Demo $880 Fine              JCT: My trial for Offence Number 0260 999 00 1232657E00 was       to be heard in Brantford Provincial Offences Act Hybrid       Court on Feb 7 2023. The charge said:              John Turmel       You are charged:       On the 3rd day April 2021 at 3pm at Brantford You did commit       the offence of Fail to Comply/Obstruction S.7.0.2 contrary       to the REOPENING ONTARIO ACT section 10(1)       The total payable Set Fine, Costs, and Victim Surcharge as       indicated on your Offence Notice: $880.00              CR: Prosecutor A. Walsh       J: Lady Judge              As a self-represented party, I was allowed to tape record       the hearing for my personal notes.              The Crown asked to have the matter adjourned over to a       judicial pre-trial to June 20 2023. because they expected it       would take up a great amount of judicial resources.              I don't know why the Crown thought it would take up a lot of       resources but it was more than a good guess. I couldn't help       thinking htey were going to give up!              Sure enough, I got a letter today:        Feb 16        Re: Certificate of Offence Number 1237657F        Please be advisedf that due to delays that are outside        of the control of the court, the prosecution will not be        proceeding to trial on the above noted Certificate of        Offence. The matter will be brought forward from the        current scheduled court date and withdrawn by the        prosecution. Please keep this notification as        confirmation of withdrawal; your attendance is not        required.        Pauline Da Silva (she/her)        Manager of Prosecutions        City of Brantford        Prosecution Division, Legal Services              Bullshit. They're not caving because of delays. After two       years, how much more delay is that inconvenient? They had no       case and were scared to let me speak and fight the case to       the top.              So charging people was a bluff to cow the resistance and       maybe get some to plead guilty and pay the fine. Sleazy       government tactics to charge people with an offence that       they were not going to go proceed with.              JCT: But it's nice to see government back down even if no       one knows but me and you.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
