   If it's just a matter of old-fashioned good manners, then presumably   
   everyone should be treated with the same courtesy, according to what my   
   mum taught me about good manners. So the judge should be required to   
   stand up as soon as the defendant enters the court.   
      
   Unless the defendant is a darkie of course, in which case old fashioned   
   manners require he be soundly whipped and sent back to the plantation :)
