   Good luck with that. File-sharing hasn't been determined to be illegal   
   in Canuckistan yet.   
      
    I think "the friend" misheard "piracy" for "privacy" as has been   
   pointed out. I don't know if we're getting the whole story, like if the   
   caller asked for or confirmed a name first, and then started in looking   
   for the SIN. Depending on who you owe the money to, a collection   
   agency's client would possibly already have that info (like for a   
   student loan).   
      
   I didn't think SINs were relevant any more. I haven't been asked for   
   mine for years, except by the fed tax dept., who it was designed for.
