   I don't think you can open a bank account or get a credit card in Canada   
   without providing your SIN.   
      
   Whether or not those entities are legally *required* to obtain your SIN   
   as part of those transactions is another matter.   
      
   And if they are not, then whether or not you can decline their request   
   and still undertake the desired transaction is, again, another matter.
