What a boost to my ego this night. Have       been sick all week, so it's a good thing you no one can see me.              > I will be heading off to the Cenotaph next week - have the week off - and       > will say hi for/to your loved ones - have a 2001 Veterans' quarter and a       > 2005 "V for Victory" nickel that I want to show and leave with them.              That's wonderful Dennis. Thank you. They will like that. The husband of       one of my workmates gave me a Year of the Veteran pin. Another very long       time friend, a fellow Canadian Army Brat, who has lived in England since       1964, arrived back in Canada (2 wk visit) in Sept, for the first time since       leaving. Her parents went to England to live when he retired from the Army       c1966. The Kipper & I use to visit them when we lived in Devonport. In       chatting with Claire, it came up that it was the Year of the Verteran. She       said her Dad had never mentioned it and she herself didn't know. So I gave       her my pin, to give to her Dad. Recently I found 2 Veteran quarters and a       'V' nickel in my change, nice and shiney. So when I sent my usual Christmas       card to him this year, I taped one of those quarters & the nickel, plus a       quarter with the poppy to the inside of the card. Had an e-mail from Claire       yesterday to say her Dad was thrilled to bits and sends his thanks. Made me       feel really good that he was so pleased to have them. A small thing for me       to do, but meant alot to Mr. V. (Mr V use to make, from absolute scratch,       the most beautiful violins ... as well as other fabulous things like rocking       horses, trains and such.)              Say hello to my Dad .. he's probably hanging about with my 2 uncles (no       doubt Dad will be back in his bells!), one of whom went down with the       Ottawa. Bill, Gord and Bobby (HMCS Ottawa) are their names. Have just       learned more about another uncle .. well a grand-uncle by marriage. He was       in a Scottish Reg't (UK), killed at Arras France in 1916. Actually died at       a Canadian Field Hospital. Left a wife and 4 young children, one of whom he       never saw. She's now 91+ (Glasgow Scotland).              Cheers Dennis ... Merry Christmas to you and your's,       Toni ~ Kingston.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
