Lordy, you should hear him go on about some things. He's even more       vocal about unions than I was here. At least he was in a unionised job for       nearly all his 33 years in the Canadian work force. And every time I turn       around, he's boycotting some business or other! He usually sticks by his       guns too. Absolutely refuses to buy gas at Petrol Can .. if they were the       last on earth, I'm sure he'd walk rather than buy from them. That wasn't       the case when they first started up. He was all for them .. then he noticed       they were often far more expensive than the others, the first to jack up       their prices, particularly when a long week-end was upon us, etc, etc.              Plus, in his work he saw reports/research etc, that most of us would never       see or hear about. Those about Petrol Can were bad. What really angered       him was that the Canadian taxpayer was substidizing them, whilst they were       ripping us off at the pumps. Have you ever seen anything in the newspapers,       news reports etc, that suggests this? No .. nor will you most likely. I       only recall some of his ranting about this, not all the ins & outs .. but he       could give you a very detailed summary .. but have the medics at hand, as he       does become very agitated when he discusses it .. at 62+ he needs to take it       easy!              The Kipper gets really upset at how gullible Canadians can be about [some?       many?] things. One that really sticks out in my mind was when we still had       the choice between leaded and unleaded gas. When gas is refined, there is       no lead in it. Lead has to be added. So why were we paying more for       unleaded gas? When a few people questioned that, they were told because it       cost more to refine it ... duh .. no it didn't. It's similar with unsalted       butter, brown eggs .. [see my next rant in another post] ... we seem to       believe whatever we're told, because 'someone in the biz', says it's so.              wrcn       ... every good girl loves a sailor ...              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
