My understanding is that they (the Poppy cultivators = farmers) will not
be attacked because to do so would push them to the 'other side'. I heard
   this on the radio.
Is it true? I have no idea.
There are many issues to be discussed here and I have a very bottom
line question from a different point of view.
    My question is as follows:
Does anyone know what else will grow in Afghanistan besides poppies?
From the photos I have seen it looks barren with little rainfall. There
seems to be no greenery, as in grass etc.
It would be very interesting to know what might grow there as a crop to
provide either food for local consumption or a profitable crop for
   exporting.
I know coffee seems to be grown in mountainous areas. Could coffee be
grown in Afghanistan? I doubt it but it is a question.
Does anyone know of a website that describes the farming landscape and
the possibilities of growing crops, other than poppies, in Afghanistan?
In other words, what are the positive options for the Afghan farming
   community?
What other farming options do they have? Any?
In my mind all the Afghan farmers really want is to farm, feed their
families and have a little extra...
