Never knew there was an altered version, but it       > makes sense.              Hi Lee,              Just before that movie was shown, there was a documentary on the Dam       Busters,       in which they related the story of/about the dog. I also have a book about       the Dam       Busters. Lists all involved, with drawings & maps of the bomb, the dams etc       .. extremely       interesting. I know my Dad use to get annoyed whenever the US made       movie/shows       on TV showed USian involvement. He told us to never forget that there were       quite a few       Canadians involved. If I recall correctly, it was a Canadian who came up       with the concept       or invented the bomb itself. Would have to look it all up .. can't recall       if it was 32 Canadians       were involved, were pilots or died .. just forget off-hand. Unfortunately,       we are usually just       'lumped' with the British, in the documentaries and some of the movies.       [Sounds familar doesn't? Think of The Devil's Brig]              > Another classic war movie, which I own--I like it so much, is       > "The Train", with Burt Lancaster.              Overall, not too bad, but again .. USian. We rarely watch any war movies       made by USians.       Kipper has watched some older ones about subs (Gray Lady Down is one I       recall), but he has       refused to watch any of the more recent ones, esp the one about finding the       enigma. At first he       refused to watch the more recent one about the Russian boat which was stuck       below. My brother       loaned us the movie ... U571? I'm not sure of the actual title. I finally       got the chance to watch       it, after reading/watching about the making of the movie, the Russian       involvement etc. Was sure       in the opening scenes that it was Halifax Harbour they were showing, so       asked Kipper if he thought       so too. He ended up watching it ... but was not too happy that USian actors       were the main stars!              By the way, many of you here are RCAF Brats ... who have a thing for planes        |
