|    Warnings we do not need to hear    |

From: thomform@iaw.on.ca              I do some kayaking, and started subscribing to a group for surf-skis -a long       thin sit on top kayak, which I have learned can be used to surf the wakes of       large ships. It sounds like fun, but how about this precautionary warning?              _______________________________________       * In some areas, like mine, bull sharks, tiger sharks, and lemon sharks feed       in the mouth of the cut that the ships use. When you capsize you want to get       back on your boat ASAP, and you don't want to surf ship wakes at dawn or       dusk. Bull sharks, tiger sharks, great       hammerheads and other species also follow the ships in open ocean, and they       follow them through the cut. If you're surfing the wake of a container ship       then you're probably not alone. I once rode a Coast Guard cutter's huge wake       with a lemon shark a foot to the left of my       left paddle blade, riding the same wave. You do NOT want to capsize next to       a lemon shark, a bull shark, or a tiger shark. I never, ever put my feet       down in the water to stabilize my ski. I just learned to       balance without ever doing that.       _________________________________________              This will be one more sport off my must do list.       Doug Thomas              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
