|    Re: Recruit Course Information    |

From: dancetimedj@hotmail.com              As mentioned, I was in Course 7341, "fighting 9 platoon", which was the last       "male" class to use 9 Platoon, I believe. The barrack became a woman's       platoon after that, as more women started joining, that would have given       them two buildings from back then. They used to serve treats at the Catholic       Church back then too, I had forgotten how many Catholics we converted.              I was in the band, having played trumpet with cadets and schools before, we       were given special freedom to go to the band hall twice a week. They had a       beer fridge, and it caused havoc when two of us wobbled back home after band       practise, smelling of beer, and the rest of the platooon did not have       privilages too.              I was unfortunate enough, to have a Warrant Officer (that was formerly my       father's WO when he was with 3 Mech Commando) and I used to date a girl in       Germany, who's father turned out to be one of the "hitler gestapo" and my       Platoon CPL. He recognized me, it had only been about a year then, since I       left Germany. He didn't want me poking around Granville at night, so he saw       to it, that I didn't get a local pass. At 5 weeks, I was granted a pass, and       he wanted to insure I went to Halifax, not near his daughter or Granville.       So, we (there were a few from Halifax) were escorted right to the bus for       Halifax for a weekend home, but not local. I never saw the inside of the       Green and Gold either, as we had a course party at the Band Shack I believe,       and I had been denied "Wet Passes" week after week.              Hard to believe, looking back, that all this happens. I had one Sgt who       taught NBCD, who later was on one of my ships, and part of my trade until he       retired. And I have only met two others from my original platoon over the       years. One was an Engineer like I was, took his commission and then his       early release. The other was a storesman, I met when we recovered the "GTS       Katie", that ship that had all Canada's military vehicles and weapons and       refused to dock with them. This guy we called *Radar* was the stores chief       unloading the cargo in Baiconcour.              And, as Susan knows, Richie (The Hound), one of the Karaoke Hosts in Ottawa,       is the son of one of my platoon from Cornwallis. He is still serving, but       should be retiring soon, he would be getting close now. Ah, the memories we       try to surpress...              I should have my retirement party soon, it will be a year soon, they are       expected to get around to it any day..               -= Rasta =- ( AKA Tom )               Dancetime DJ Services - (902) 471-2497        Weddings - Private Parties - Banquets - Karaoke        http://www.geocities.com/dancetimedjservices/              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
