Well the Kipper didn't have a big prob with moles, though he knew some were
about, but he did with field mice - mostly within the tenderly cared for
golf greens he'd created. [He personally knows every blade of grass!] He
placed the traps at each of the holes, with peanut butter in the traps.
Within a week he'd caught about 10 or more and hasn't seen any of either
this year .. yet. At our other house, quite a few years ago now, we were
being driven nuts with mice getting into the house. Kipper did the same
thing, putting mouse traps with peanut butter in them, at any place he
thought they were coming through. I didn't know which was worse, the
critters or all the traps everywhere! We'd hear the traps springing all
night long, for several days. Pretty soon we didn't have a problem any
longer. Caught quite a few voles/moles when we thought we'd be catching all
   mice.
