     Ain't we all?

Dr Phill asks (so my daughter tells me ... I don't watch him)
"How old would you be if you didn't know your age?" (Trick question!)

Well ... In my mind I don't feel any older than about 21, but then I pass
the mirror and think "Who the hell is that?"
My Gawd, there's an old lady looking back at me!

I wish I could have stayed 19½ forever. I was having the time of my life in
the Navy. I wasn't 'attached' to anyone, so lots of invites to movies,
skating, dances - always a dance somewhere, esp. at the Fleet Clubs (Stad or
Sheerwater). Think about it girls. There were only about 160 of us in the
block and there were approx. 5000 sailors in our backyard. Close to half of
them were not married or old enough to be our fathers. Not all of them were
at sea all the time ( only half the time). They were great guys,
gentlemen (I truly never met one who wasn't). They didn't ask a million
questions about our work (or us them). Was a super situation and we were
encouraged to date matelots, rather than civilians.

I loved my job (RP at CFMWS) and the people I worked with, although that
wouldn't have lasted as we were scheduled to go to Key West, then drafted to
various points, some overseas. I recall two of my mates (from Cornwallis)
went to Iceland; and another to France I seem to recall.

Downside of staying 19½ would be I wouldn't have met the Kipper. ... and
because we decided almost right away to get married, doing so on about our
12th date, I didn't get to go to Key West! But I did go to Scotland and
England to live with the Kipper. I also would not have been Mum to our two
great kids (one of whom is now middle aged .. YIKES! with the other close
behind). Nor would I be Nana to our 6 grandchildren. The Kipper and I
have had a great life and are enjoying our retirement together ... but I
still get a shock when I see that old woman who lives in our mirror.

   wrcn ...
... every good girl loves a sailor ...
