   It isn't clear how he's "evading" anything. You pick a simple adversarial   
   example where defensive gun use (or any other sort of violence) is   
   clearly justified. Your simple example isn't of particular relevance to   
   his point as your example is very specific, and his case was general.   
      
   Not all adversaries are 220lb rapists. Some of them are political - gun   
   control types for example.   
      
   You may regard use of firearms against gun control advocates as being   
   justified. I don't, and I suspect few outside the swivel-eyed-lunatic mob   
   would agree with such a position either. Because trying to solve   
   *political* problems ad deal with *political* adversaries by the use of   
   firearms is not very clever.   
      
   In other cases the law wants to make absolutely certain that defensive   
   gun use really is defensive gun use and not just a made-up excuse for   
   shooting somebody for some other reason - including dealing with personal   
   inadequacy. So even where there is a 220lb rapist, other than in the case   
   where you've tailored the scenario to make a specific and limited point,   
   rapidly reviewing options is the smart thing to do.
