   develop such that it becomes very ugly very quickly - and under those   
   circumstances I agree everything depends on the actions of the   
   perpetrator.   
      
   But there are, equally, many cases that evolve in such a way that other   
   aspects of self-defence discipline at best mean that armed response is   
   not needed. Or, at worst, that armed response has available any   
   advantages to hand.
