XPost: alt.impeach.obama, co.fort-collins.general, soc.culture.usa       XPost: alt.jobs.canada       From: gay.animal.molesters@hillaryclinton.com              The police in Washington on Saturday were investigating the       fatal shootings of two men the night before, the latest in a       city that has seen a sharp increase in homicides this year.              The increase, more than 40 percent from the same period a year       ago, has put pressure on the city’s government, and its new       mayor, to curb the violence.              The police identified the two young men killed in Friday’s       shootings as Omoni Johnson, 26, and Shaheed James, 21. Officers       heard gunshots at about 11:45 p.m. in southeast Washington. Upon       reaching the scene, they found that three men had been shot. One       was taken to the hospital, and the police said he was expected       to survive. They have not released that man’s name.              Before the men were shot on Friday, 103 people had been killed       in Washington so far this year, according to the Metropolitan       Police Department. During the same period last year, the city       recorded 72 homicides, 43 percent fewer than this year.              This is Mayor Muriel Bowser’s first year in office, and on       Thursday, she outlined a $15 million plan to address the rising       tide of violence.              “I know that people want answers. Why is this happening?” Ms.       Bowser said. While she cited an increase in “synthetic drugs”       and the presence of a “small number” of repeat violent       offenders, she refused to provide a single narrative or cause.              “We face complex challenges, which is why I stand here not to       give you half-truths or oversimplified answers,” she said.              Ms. Bowser’s speech was interrupted by protesters associated       with the Black Lives Matter movement, who erupted in boos when       the mayor said she planned to put more police officers on the       streets of certain neighborhoods that have seen the most       violence.              Other cities have also struggled with an increasing number of       violent deaths this year. Chicago, for example, reported a 21       percent increase in its murder rate by mid-August, and as of       Friday, there had been 120 murders in New Orleans this year,       compared with 96 at this time last year, according to those       cities’ police departments.              http://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/30/us/as-homicide-rate-rises-       washington-mayor-pledges-action.html                      --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
