XPost: alt.law-enforcement, alt.politics.republicans, alt.fan.rush-limbaugh       XPost: talk.politics.guns, sac.politics       From: nospam@ix.netcom.com              Federal investigators are expanding their search for records in Oakland,       and they appear to be after police reports related to the Duong family,       the owners of the city’s recycling contractor who’ve branched out into       other businesses.              The U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California issued a new       subpoena to Oakland on July 10, according to records obtained by The       Oaklandside. Federal agents haven’t made any accusations of wrongdoing in       connection with this investigation.              The latest subpoena asks for records documenting all sources of federal       funding Oakland has received from January 1, 2022, to the present.              It also asks for contact information for attorneys who have worked in the       City Attorney’s Office from January 1, 2022, to the present and it seeks       all Oakland Police Department internal phone number directories and/or       lists from March 1, 2024, to now.              Investigators are also asking for Oakland police reports made by or       involving members of the Duong family, including Andy, David, Kristina,       and Johnny, from April 1 to the present.              The grand jury issued a “superseding subpoena” on July 12 that requests       almost identical records, except it doesn’t include reference to the City       Attorney contact information.              The request for police reports follows several news stories about a       possible fight that occurred between the Duongs and Oakland businessman       Mario Juarez on May 3. According to public records, Juarez and the Duongs       were business partners through Evolutionary Homes. The company appears to       have been angling for public dollars to build or sell modular homeless       shelters to the city of Oakland. The company was incorporated at 1211       Embarcadero, which sits on a piece of property owned the Port of Oakland       that the Duongs lease.              At some point, the business relationship deteriorated, according to a       letter Juarez sent to the Port. Juarez wrote that he was unlawfully locked       out of the company’s building on May 3. He confronted David, Andy, and       Kristina Duong. Juarez alleged that the Duongs summoned several people to       the offices who beat and robbed him, and forced him to make a video       apology for David Duong.              Juarez reported the incident to the police. So did Andy Duong, who alleged       that Juarez acted violently by carrying a gun and telling him that he had       “cartel” people around the building. David Duong disputed Juarez’s claims       as false and “bizarre and disturbing” in his own letter to the Port.              About a month after the alleged altercation outside the 1211 Embarcadero       building, Juarez claims an unknown assailant shot at him outside his       Oakland home. Juarez told police he believed the shooting was related to       his involvement in an investigation, which he did not elaborate on       further.              Oakland has until July 25 to comply with the new subpoena.              Last week the grand jury requested a slew of records from Oakland city       staff. These included documents and communications related to the Duong       family, California Waste Solutions, Evolutionary Homes, Mayor Sheng Thao’s       partner Andre Jones, the former Oakland Army Base, and the 2022 mayoral       election, among other things.              Earlier today Thao’s attorney, Jeff Tsai stated that the search warrant       executed against Thao’s home “is not criminal charges.” Tsai also       criticized the Justice Department for raiding Thao’s home without public       explanation months before the mayor faces a recall election.              https://oaklandside.org/2024/07/12/fbi-demands-more-records-from-oakland-       subpoena-       investigation/?utm_source=newsshowcase&utm_medium=gnews&utm_campaign=CDAqE       AgAKgcICjC7yZsLMP_TswMw67aJAw&utm_content=rundown              --- SoupGate-DOS v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
