But, I've been praying that       the Democrat party can get its act together. Let the current party die       in a heap of ashes -- and start a new party of centrists who LOVE       AMERICA and who want to keep this country great. We need TWO strong       parties in this country. Right now we have only one              -----------------------------------------              I suspect a significant part of the problem is the notion that becoming a       self-supporting and productive adult has become passe', you can morally       remain dependent your whole life and your support will shift from parents to       the government, or reliance on entertainment which includes the media if you       can't make it as an actor.       https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/face_for_radio              I encountered that attitude in the 60's from many students and a few chem       professors who considered industrial work immoral. The bold and strong       heroes of the 1950's faded from TV and film to be replaced by hapless       schmucks who believed they were victims of a "society" they were unable or       unwilling to learn to join, notably in Woody Allen films. Authority figures       were glorified only if they were misfits like Dirty Harry, no more Sheriff       Matt Dillon. Kubrick presented heroic David Bowman in the 60's, dissolute       Barry Lyndon in the 70's and crazed Jack Torrance in 1980. Music went from       "Davy Crocket, king of the wild frontier." to "And your gravity fails,       negativity don't pull you through."              I don't know a cure. I associated with scientists, engineers, technicians       and machinists at school and work, sometimes also writers, artists and       actors socially, and there was little connection between their worlds.              --- SoupGate-DOS v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
