Bill Maher discusses dinner with Donald Trump: full transcript

   --------------------------

Before his first term I had one chance to ask Trump a question at a NH rally
and he stopped to pay close attention. I asked him if as an outsider would
he be able to assemble an effective and cooperative administration, or
possibly be like Carter who couldn't. The latter was a mistake because he
went on about how bad Carter was, and just stated that of course he would be
able to find the right people.

Kasich had responded to the same question even less convincingly, claiming a
White House or Air Force One tour would swing critical votes.

Both plus John McCain and Lindsay Graham were willing to mingle in a crowd
of strangers who hadn't been screened for easily licensed concealed weapons
with little (Trump) or no (Kasich, McCain, Graham) security.

Trump had easily attracted the largest and most enthusiastic group of
supporters early in the primary. The others brought in decent sized
audiences who appeared to be shopping for the best candidate instead of
strongly backing one. The voter questions weren't as stupid or hostile as
reporters ask at press conferences and the candidates could often answer
   rather than deflect them.

By that time I had stopped attending Democratic events because they required
pre-registration and screening. If they don't trust the public they can't
represent it. We used to meet candidates for US President at house parties.
Somehow I was on the list for both sides, perhaps because some left-leaning
politicians mistook my attentiveness for appreciation.
