|  Kittens (ferral)  |
|  23 Nov 11 12:22:24  |
Well, Yesterday I went ahead and made the mistake of again, going over to see the kittens. No mother in sight. The kittens were huddled up in the leaves. I saw the little himalayan looking one near the same place as usual. My mistake is, I picked him up. He hissed once and then as I held him against me he seemed to realize, hey this is some nice heat here.. He stopped shaking after a few minutes and started to doze. Well, me with animals I wanted to stick them in my pockets right then, in my jacket and take them home, but remembering what we talked of here and elsewhere, as bad as I wanted to, I could not and put him down. He waddled away and I saw the other one just laying in the leaves to keep warm. Both were dirty and looked weak. As I went on, I felt pretty bad, but did not have a clue of what could be done. I called Lolly pop farm, our local aspca, in hopes they would be able to get them. I told the lady there about the kittens from spring, and said, I haven't seen them, and the kittens are just laying there waiting to die. I told them I feared the same fate would happen to the kittens that happened to their kitten/parents. The woman there denied that they were ferral. I told her I have seen the situation daily, and know where they are. ( actually a site that has old contruction debris and equipment ) Nothing else there except for the building next to the site that I visit regularly. she said, well if You could pick up the kitten it is not ferral. I explained that You could not touch the parents and the only reason You could get to the kittens was they were so small and weak that they could not run away. She said, no, they belong to somebody and we can't do nothing about that. I kept trying to convince her, but it was to no avail and she said, even if they were ferral, they can't come and get every stray cat.. I guess I understood that. I still felt like crap.. I had to make a second trip to that office that day and when I pulled up. I saw no kittens. My biggest concern was it was cold yesterday and if there is no mother, there is no food, they were not big enough to get food on their own. I peered through the fence and to my relief and surprise. The siamese looking cat/kitten I had watch grow all summer, until as I said the last few weeks or so, was laying in the leaves feeding her kittens. The one I thought was a male was a female and she was feeding her babies. I was going to grab them and take them to lollipop my self, but since Momma was their feeding them and keeping them warm. I at least felt much better about it. I don't know their chances, but don't know their chances if taken to lollipop either. So I hope for the best. But knowing Momma was still there feeding them and keeping them warm was a load off of my mind. Mike ...
