I don't know about with Synchronet, but I'm using an old DOS BBS program 
(Telegard) with old DOS mail tossers (FastEcho) and they all still work, the 
door games still work as well.

The trick is you have to use Windows 10 32-bit or an older version of 
Windows (or something else like DOSEMU if you're going to emulate it under 
Linux) as 64-bit versions of Windows don't support the old 16-bit
executables.
