I've seen "free" wifi hotspots password protected.

I think Ed said his router does offer wifi, (and perhaps he's using the home
wifi to his phone?) But he prefers a wired connection to his PC.  If his XP
machine supports wifi, he'd be good to go, but he has suspicions about using
wifi.
