Kildall was, I believe, mostly influenced by RSTS/E on the PDP-11. My guess is that he heard about PIP (Peripheral Interchange Program) there. Gates and Allen were familiar with TOPS-10 from using the PDP-10 at Harvard (and I seem to recall Gates's private school in Seattle had access to some powerful -- for the time -- mainframe-class machine, but I may be misremembering). --- Mystic BBS v1.12 A46 2020/08/26 (Linux/64) * Origin: Agency BBS | Dunedin, New Zealand | agency.bbs.nz (3:770/100) SEEN-BY: 1/123 14/0 18/200 90/1 105/81 120/340 123/131 124/5016 129/305 SEEN-BY: 153/250 154/10 203/0 220/70 221/0 226/17 30 227/114 702 229/101 SEEN-BY: 229/424 426 428 452 700 981 1016 1017 240/2100 5138 5411 SEEN-BY: 240/5824 5832 5853 249/1 206 317 400 267/800 280/464 5003 SEEN-BY: 282/1038 288/100 292/854 301/1 310/31 317/3 320/219 322/757 SEEN-BY: 340/1000 342/200 396/45 423/120 460/58 633/280 712/848 770/1 SEEN-BY: 770/100 330 340 772/210 220 230 2452/250 2454/119 PATH: 770/100 1 280/464 240/5832 229/426 |
