I know someone who gets an allergic reaction to coffee, (throat swells, heart
races, face turns red) and she still will have a coffee.

So, maybe you are experiencing something similar, but your body is not
manifesting as an allergic reation. Instead there is enough trauma in your
body to make sleep impossible.
