608aa1e8       XPost: boulder.general       From: wolfbat359a@mindspring.com              Restore Wildlife Habitat at Chico Basin Ranch, March 22-24: VOLUNTEERS       NEEDED       Date: Feb 15, 2013 3:15 PM                     Chico Basin Ranch Restoration              March 22 - 24              (Ranch-style BBQ, bird walk, the GREAT Plains)                     OVERVIEW              Right now, more than 1,500 miles away in Central America, droves of       tiny birds are considering migrating north, up through the Central       (great plains) Flyway and beyond. To successfully make their journey,       they need the right habitat. Here in Colorado, at the western edge of       the great plains, much of that habitat has been altered and/or lost       completely.                            In partnership with the Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory, the Col       Division of Wildlife, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, and       Chico Basin Ranch, WRV is building on its first successful year at       Chico Basin Ranch to restore a classic plains riparian (i.e.,       streamside) plant community essential to well being of so many       migratory birds and other wildlife. The site has been severely altered       throughout the years, resulting in a dense cover of exotic Russian       olive trees and tamarisk. These trees have been eliminated, and now       the site is ready for the re-establishment of native shrubs and trees,       such as golden currant, wild rose, chokecherry, plains cottonwood,       coyote willow, and others. On this project, volunteers will be       installing willow cuttings, container stock, and bare-root shrubs. We       hope you can join us for one or three days to help restore habitat in       an important part of the central flyway.                            View Chico Basin Ranch video and conservation info: Chico Basin Ranch       For more information about flyways, visit: Central (Great Plains)       Flyway                     Free camping and food provided!                     HOW TO REGISTER?       To register for the first camp-out of the year, click here, e-mail       john@wlrv.org, or call 970-493-2075.                     Want to help restore Chico Basin, but can't make the date? Come join       us on March 15 for one day of willow and cottonwood harvest, essential       plant stock to restore the bird habitats of Chico Basin.
