Unmoderated newsgroups enjoy the unique distinction of providing equal
opportunity for uncensored freespeech in these universal public forums
comprising over one hundred thousand newsgroups, the majority of which
are inactive or nearly so, but some of which are relatively busy, with
dozens or even hundreds of articles per day on average. Thus filtering
newsgroup articles is based on experience, discretion, newsreader, etc.
Certainly everyone blocks googlegroups, but beyond that is a gray area.

Moved here from Marin County, California in 1970, been here ever since
and this year has been the most consistently inclement in memory. Whew!

When I was younger, big league competition sports seemed appealing but
exploitation has progressively commodified it as commercial enterprise,
but maybe that's how it's always been and getting older simply makes it
more obvious? Oscar Wilde would agree on that point "...the only thing".

Yet social media is moderated, which some might prefer to the veritable
wild west of uncensored public discussion in this longitude of daylight.
E.g. Jimmy Hoffa said "there are criminals on both sides of these bars",
and I would observe there are no good guys in a world full of bad guys.
But I've been lucky, 65 and never seen the inside except on television.

I'm a retired hobbyist, variously active in newsgroups since January 1998,
subscribed to about a dozen of them of which only several are very active.
