XPost: comp.ai.nat-lang, comp.speech.research, comp.dsp       From: mike.johnson@mu.edu              Graduate Research Assistantships are currently available with The Dr.       Dolittle Project in the Speech and Signal Processing lab at Marquette       University. The fundamental goal of this research project is to       develop a broadly useable framework for pattern analysis and       classification of animal vocalizations, by integrating successful       models and ideas from the field of speech processing and recognition       into bioacoustics. Tasks include automatic vocalization classification       and labeling, individual identification, call type classification,       behavioral vocalization correlations, language acquisition, and       seismic infrasonic communication. Species being targeted for study       include domestic and agricultural animals, marine mammals, and several       endangered species, in collaboration with researchers at a number of       other institutions.              Compensation includes tuition reimbursement as well as a monthly       stipend of $1400 per month. Candidates should have a Bachelors or       Masters degree in a discipline related to speech and signal processing       or bioacoustics.              The Speech and Signal Processing lab is associated with the Department       of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Marquette University,       located in Milwaukee, WI. Interested individuals should send an e-mail       to:              Dr. Mike Johnson       Mike.Johnson@marquette.edu       Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering       Marquette University       Milwaukee, WI 53201-1881       http://www.eng.mu.edu/johnson       (414) 288-0631              [ comp.ai is moderated.
