   I have to disagree.  It sounds like he's interested in applications of   
   M&S...so I don't think starting with the nuts and bolts is the way to   
   go.  You might want to check out some of the proceedings of the   
   conference on Behavior Representation In Modeling and Simulation (BRIMS)   
   for an overview of current and recent work.  For agent work more   
   generall, look at the Autonomous Agents and Multi-Agent Systems (AAMAS)   
   proceedings.  Then if you want to look at more foundational textbook   
   type of stuff for agent and AI technology, I'd recommend Russel &   
   Norvig's Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach and perhaps   
   Wooldridge's Reasoning About Rational Agents.
