What sort of expert system are you trying to create? I use OpenCyc - a
Common sense knowledge base system, for my Masters Thesis. For building
a expert system in OpenCyc, you need to have some knowledge of CycL.
There are APIs in Java, C and Python for OpenCyc. OpenCycKB browser
can be used to browse the KB as well as Modify(Requires CycL
   knowledge) KB.
