   Well, the two-volume introduction to automata theory in terms of FSM's is   
   "Introduction to the Theory of Automata" by Zamir Bavel, ISBN 0-9623885-2-1.   
   It's as near an exhaustive reference to automata theory as exists.

   For implementation techniques, I'd suggest different books, starting
