How to name your AI algorithm
   11 Dec 04 00:03:20

For a lighter subject than the usual.

What do you name your AI algorithms after?

Do you try to summarize its functionality in the name, use a
mythological reference, or come up with one of those mysterious
abbreviations like Patricia, etc.? (No, that's not how I want to
   immortalize my beloved's name)

What has been the historical tendency? For instance, why is A* search
named the way it has been and not something else?

In data mining, which is the field I work in, there are some quite
interesting names like Apriori, Eclat, Clouds, etc. It seems as if
finding a good mnemonic helps spread the word. What do you think is the
best practice in this? Some papers don't give a name to the algorithms
described, could this have an adverse affect on your "marketing
   strategy"?

   Cheers,
