The positions are suitable for candidates who have       demonstrated an excellent track record in soft computing and Artificial       Intelligence (AI) and their applications in the telecommunications       area. Successful candidates will be required to identify and develop       new techniques based on soft computing and AI technology, and novel       applications in current and emerging information and communications       technology (ICT) areas including intelligent information management,       knowledge-based reasoning, automated advanced customer support, and       data analysis. The candidates will be required to travel and spend       time with the research teams at BT's Adastral Park (UK) and give       presentations to senior technical and business managers. The positions       are available immediately.              BT's Research and Venturing (R&V) group based at Adastral Park is an       internationally known research organisation which conducts short,       medium and long term R&D for BT in a diverse range of topics such as       network technologies and AI. ISR is a part of BT's R&V group which       aims to research and develop novel intelligent software systems and       technologies in order to: i) radically improve the way BT operates and       employs its resources, and ii) technologically enable the provision and       management of future broadband networks and services. The group       currently collaborates with a number of UK and international       universities such as UC Berkeley, MIT and Imperial College on R&D       projects to stimulate research in particular areas of interest to BT       and participate in state of the art research projects.              British Telecommunications plc is one of the world's leading providers       of telecommunications services. With a market capitalisation of around       70 billion pounds, it is one of the largest private sector companies in       Europe, with rapidly expanding operations in more than 30 countries       worldwide.              Candidate Requirements              Successful candidates will have an earned PhD in Computer Science or       related field, with demonstrated research expertise and/or industrial       experience in soft computing/AI. Additional qualifications include       experience in the application of knowledge representation, machine       learning, and intelligent reasoning to processing complex media (e.g.       natural language text and images). Combined theoretical and software       engineering expertise for development of research prototypes, good oral       and written communication capabilities, and excellent       publication/patent record are also considered essential criteria.       Project management or supervision experience and good knowledge of ICT       area are desirable.              A technical committee will select the suitable candidates for formal       interviews.
