I'll have to put in my plug for Colorado State University. Dr.
Whitley, the department chair, is a dominant figure in genetic
algorithms. We've also got research programs in planning/scheduling,
computer vision and machine learning, along with a budding
   bioinformatics program.

For more on the AI group, see: http://www.cs.colostate.edu/aigroup.html

Having studied at other schools in the U.S., I've been very impressed
with all of the professors in the CS department at CSU.

   Good luck with your search!
