I am trying to track down specific information on US Federal funding of   
      
   AI research for the past few decades.  Some of recommended "Brain   
   Makers."  Kenneth Flamm's books have also helped somewheat.   
      
      
    I thought I'd also check the Federal Budget Appendix for various   
   years, looking specifically at DARPA.  1960 lists ARPA in its   
   breakdown, but I can't find ARPA or DARPA in later years (1972, 1987,   
   1988).  Does anyone have any suggestions on where to look for thi   
   information?  Does DARPA get folded into the general Research group   
   listed after the specific military branches (Army, Navy, Air Force,   
   Marines)?  Has anyone looked into these numbers?
