   Earl/Bill,

You two are lifting your leg on the wrong tree and responding to a planted
scent. The core issue is that we have a supposed-Ph.D. student telling two
adult practitioners who have developed their own productive software and
used it for more than two decades to build working systems that solved real
problems that he knows more than you two do!

I wonder how his dissertation advisor and other committee members feel
about having a student who believes -- even if he doesn't tell them directly
-- that he know more than they.

It is only when one grows up -- if that occurs at all -- that one realizes
how much there is to know and how little one really knows. Over the decades
I've realized that I have many more questions than I have answers. It's
encouraging that the Italian university system is producing graduates who
have all the answers, even if they don't know any of the questions.
