   Hi.

S-function is the most common function used to represent certain types of
fuzzy sets. Why is that? Why other types of polynomial functions are not as
common as the S-function? Exept the fact that S-function is suitable for
representing certain types of fuzzy sets, is its popularity also due to
historical reasons (since Zadeh introduced the S-function)?

Any references or hints are welcome.
