   Well I would say that "fuzzy control" et al just distilled the idea.   
   Actually the linguistic stuff is irrelevant to the basic concept.   
   Which, as I see it, is to substitute one domain for another. The rest   
   is rather bells and whistles that may be uninteresting in some   
   application domains like fuzzy control, machine learning,   
   non-linguistic pattern recognition etc.
