   I admit that the formal definition of a linguistic variable is far more than   
   what you need in daily fuzzy control practice.   
      
   There is nothing wrong to take it a bit easier and to say that "HEIGHT" is   
   the variable and that {"SHORT","MEDIUM","LARGE"} is the set of terms, each   
   of which is modeled by a corresponding fuzzy set. At least the terminology   
   is clear then.   
      
   Nevertheless, the original definition of a linguistic variable is more   
   general, and if Scooter asks for the correct terminology, then he should be   
   told the whole story. What Dmitry wrote him, just made his confusion worse,   
   at least IMHO.
