Fidonet is a mere shadow of its former self. I can't even remember the last
time I dialed into a BBS. I bet it's been 1998 or earlier. I've even
forgotten all of the modem AT commands. Fidonet almost collapsed under its
own weight when the nodelist got out of control around '93 or '94 -- the WWW
kept that from happening. But a total Internet crash is becoming less and
less likely with each passing day, and modem sales are down and they'll
never go back up as always-on connections become more affordable.
