I had used the backend generator BEG v1.75 by Helmut Emmelmann [1] for an   
   Oberon-2 compiler as part of my computer science thesis in 1995.   
      
   Trying to resurrect this old code base [2], I run into the problem that the   
   original BEG binary which I still have is in an old a.out format, and I have   
   been unsuccessful so far to get it to run on a modern Linux.   
      
   I reached out to Helmut Emmelmann via the contact info from his web site [3],   
   but haven't received any response.   
      
   What other options should I look into?
