   Tony, I have to agree with Erland.  The 2008 version of SSMS has several   
   issues including sometimes failing to connect using a valid username/password   
   combination.  Apply at least SP1 to get past that.   
      
   But depending on where your Registration file came from you may have to   
   recreate the entries manually since it is possible the problem is how the file   
   was written.
