From: NoSpamPlease-rodney@ars-florida.com              Borland... Inprise... Borland... CodeGear... Embarcadero... a RAD Software       Tool developing company, not a RAD Software Tool developing company... ???       What's up????              It all makes my head spin and it doesn't give me much faith at all in the       company (who ever they are at any moment) or any of its products.       Embarcadero would have made a much wiser decision if they would have       announced that they were keeping their newly acquired CodeGear division       operating under the "CodeGear" brand name.              RAD Software developing tools are used to produce complex solutions that may       takes several years to develop... Most software developers also hope that       it will require many more years to support. If the company providing the       tools which produce these solutions create a constant underlying fear and       erode their products confidence (as Borland or who ever they are, have) ...       then I can understand why developers would avoid using it and shop       elsewhere.              In my opinion, Borland has hurt itself severely by constantly trying to       "find itself"... It's identity crisis has certainly driven many developers       away... What ever happened to their Linux developing RAD tool which they       trumpeted about only a few years ago?? I think its name was Kylix or       something like that. Developers don't want to partner with fickle       companies and Borland has certainly demonstrated that is suffers from a real       "who am I, where am I" crisis.              I think many Delphi developers were just starting to get comfortable with       the idea of having the Delphi product developed by a new 'division' named       "CodeGear" because it appeared that CodeGear was actually in many ways       disconnected from Borland and its historically proven dysfunctional       management... If Embarcadero removes the CodeGear brand, as they       apparently claim ... they will certainly loose even more Delphi developers       who will be looking for something more solid to partner with.... And who       can blame them? They've been beaten up enough.              I think Embarcadero means, "a port, or a place where ships are loaded and       unloaded" in Spanish... Well, Delphi users certainly could use a "safe       harbor"... but they will need something familiar to "feel" secure. Killing       the CodeGear brand name isn't a good start... it simply looks like Delphi is       being "unloaded" and its loyal users left in the storm.                     Just my humble opinions.                     --        ...        `·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·-> rodney              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
