   select ID_num, sum(q1), sum(q2), (sum(q1) + sum(q2)) as total_sum
   from table1
   where ID_num = ~sID

   or:

   where ID_num = '~stID'

...depending on whether it's a string or not and whether your variable
includes the single quotes or not.

As for the QBE, I'm fairly sure you'll need two of them - since they're
in a script, that shouldn't be such a big deal.
